Every year millions of people turn to the Better Business Bureau‘s rating system to help protect them from scams. The BBB gives businesses grades ranging from A to F based on reviews or complaints they get from customers of these businesses.
Apparently the grades are also based on another criteria. ABC News’ 20/20 did an investigation of the BBB and now it’s questionable about whether you should trust the BBB.
How do I feel?
Forget the BBB and look for other independent reviews from people who have actual experience with the business you’re researching. That’s what the internet is for and it’s very easy to find out stuff about ANY business just by doing a quick search for queries such as:
- “business” + complaints
- “business” + reviews
- “business” + user reviews
- “business” + scam
- etc.
I’ve heard that they’ve since apologized for the ratings system but do we really need the BBB?

WOW now that was a shocker to watch … I would have never thought that the BBB were just another scam in a suit!
Just goes t show that you really have to dig deep to know who to trust.
Cheers fro the update KP
Actually I had the doubt when I was searching something about the on-line shop DinoDirect. Most of the customer reviews were talking about unethical and fraudulent practice of the company, yet the company still has A-rating.
I couldn’t help wondering if BBB is receiving bribe from the company.
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they actually are.
@F.S.N. That just goes to show that the BBB isn’t relevant anymore. They destroyed themselves and their reputation by being greedy and I’m not sure there’s any way they could fix it.
